The Restaurant

The Restaurant by Hatch Conference

Invite-only, free participative events for designers in tech in Berlin

A different kind of gathering where designers meet to interact, not to listen to talks. Open panels, roundtables, demos and more.

More demos & conversation.
Fewer presentations.

A gathering without slide decks. No experts, just real designers talking.

KeynotesDiscussion ForumsDesign teams show real work in progress and how they got there. A quick demo beats a polished deck.
Q&ARoundtablesEvery guest brings one problem and talks it through at a table of ten.
AudienceParticipantsThere are no seats at the back. Everyone sits at a table and takes a turn.

Don’t just watchJoin the dialogue.

It’s no one’s task to teach you how to do things in the era of AI. We are all figuring it out.
But why is all content around solo building?
We still believe the best work is done in teams, but there are few talks on how to set those standards.

That’s why your participation won’t be occupying a chair, but actually contributing to the event.
If that’s not something you are willing to do, maybe this isn’t the right event for you.

What you leave with

  • Two problems worked through by a table of 10 people.
Yours may be one of them
  • One line from every table on what they figured out
  • A connection to peers facing the same questions you are
  • The chance to recommend who else should join

Who are these
events for?

Senior designers and design leaders with experience working in in-house teams

Our events are about the issues, infrastructure and challenges of design teams.

Designers ready to contribute to a conversation, not just “learn”

The Restaurant aims to work on exchange, not an audience. We want only those ready to open up and discuss together.

Freelancers, solo builders

Our events are about the issues, infrastructure and challenges of design teams, so they aren’t the place for solo builders or freelancers.

Solicitors & vendors

We have a strict no-pitching policy, so if you’re trying to join to sell, look for jobs or motives that are not contributing to the exchange, you will not be accepted.

How to get in

  1. Join the community

Get an invite code from anyone already in it. If you took part in Hatch Conference or Ateliers in 2026, you can use your email on the login page to join the community.

  2. Claim a ticket for an event

Being in the community doesn’t hold you a seat. 10 to 12 days before each evening we email everyone in it. Tickets are first come, and you can bring a plus one.

  3. Re-confirm 72 hours before

We email you one question 72 hours before. Answer within 24 hours, or your seat goes to the next person on the standby list.

Make it
or you’re out

Seats are limited, so we’re serious about no-shows. Can’t come? Press “I’m not going” up to 12 hours before, no penalty. Miss an evening without telling us and you get a strike: you can’t join the next one. A second strike, and you miss the next 3.

Questions,
answered

The timelines are strict so every seat goes to someone who comes. Here is exactly how it works.

How can I get invited to the events?

To get invited you need to be part of the community. You join when someone who is already in it invites you with one of their invite codes. Took part in Hatch Conference 2026 or Ateliers? Log in with the email you used there.

What if I can’t find an invite?

Apply to our application list. We use it to let in around 20 people each month, oldest applications first, so it can take a few months. Apply, and we email you your invite when it’s your turn.

Does joining the community guarantee me a place at the events?

No. Once you are in the community, you still need to get a ticket when they are released. Seats are limited and tickets are first come.

When do tickets open?

10 to 12 days before each evening: 12 days, or the Monday after if that falls on a weekend, at 10:00 Berlin time. We email everyone in the community at the same moment. Tickets are first come; when they run out, you can join the standby list.

Can I invite someone to join?

Yes. Once an evening is live and you have a ticket, you can bring someone as your plus one. They have 24 hours to accept and create a profile, otherwise their ticket goes to someone else. You also get invite codes to bring people into the community.

Are the events free to join?

Yes.

What happens once I get my ticket?

72 hours before the evening you get a second email asking you to confirm. You have 24 hours to re-confirm you’re coming, or your ticket goes to someone else.

What happens if an evening is full?

There’s a standby list: people who want to come and are waiting for others to give back their ticket or not confirm. When a seat frees up, it goes to the next person on standby.

Can I join every evening?

Not always. After 3 evenings in a row, your next request goes on the standby list so others get a chance to join. If a seat is still free once confirmations close, it’s yours.

What happens if I don’t make it?

Because seats are limited, we have a strict strike policy. Miss one evening without cancelling at least 12 hours before, and you can’t attend the next one. Miss two, and you won’t be allowed in the next 3. Coming to an evening clears your strikes.

I missed a deadline. Can you make an exception?

No. Every timeframe is final: a plus-one seat not accepted within 24 hours, a confirmation not answered within 24 hours, a ticket not cancelled 12 hours before. Once it has passed, the seat has already gone to someone else, and we can’t give it back or extend it, whatever the reason. The emails tell you each deadline; it helps to add them to your calendar.

Join to share,
not to just listen.

If you want to sit and watch, find a stage.
If you’re ready to participate, then we’re expecting you!
